Japanese Beech Japanese beech are considered to be the finest Beech species for bonsai because of its small neat foliage, thin delicate twigs, white bark and surface roots. Japanese beech are commonly used for forest plantings and specimens with good low branching make superb single trunk bonsai. These established pre-bonsai have light branching. The bronze foliage commonly persist through the winter. They are extremely difficult to find and have not been available for many years.
