Professional bonsai artist, author, instructor and curator
of the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection in Federal Way, Washington. Mr. DeGroot has conducted considerable research on the horticultural aspects of growing and maintaining bonsai. His studies in Japan have helped him to create and understand bonsai display.
He maintains his bonsai collection in addition to teaching around the country. |
Dennis Makishima

Mr. Makishima lives in the San Francisco Bay area, California, where he teaches both bonsai and ornamental tree pruning at Merritt College. Professional bonsai artist and proprietor of International Bonsai Mirai in the Portland, Oregon area. Mr. Neil is originally from Colorado and received his horticulture degree from California Polytechnic State before studying with Masahiko Kimura in Japan for six years. He is now teaching bonsai throughout the United States and abroad teaching the bonsai techniques he learned while training in Japan. |
Peter Warren
Professional bonsai artist and proprietor of Saruyama Bonsai in London, England. Mr. Warren studied bonsai, suiseki and display with Kunio Kobayashi at the Shunka-en Bonsai Museum in Tokyo for five years. He is an authority on bonsai display, suiseki and how the two are combined to create distinctive displays. He now maintains a busy schedule teaching his techniques in Europe and the United States. |
